ICE DIVING
2012 / Acryl / 200 x 150 cm
In the arctic climate of Lake Elgygytgyn (White Lake) in East Siberia, Vierad discovers ice diving for herself. To be able to glide into the water, a triangular hole is cut in the ice – for her, this is a door to a mysterious world, the start of a journey of discovery as well as the safe exit point. In the special atmosphere below the ice and amidst all the colours that emerge when the incident sunlight refracts in the water, you easily lose your bearings. For the artist, the triangle links the two worlds where the ice layer separates the sky from the water.
