A nature reserve close to the place where Vierad lives and works is of special significance to the artist. It has become her retreat where she observes nature and listens to the sounds of the wind and animals, where she feels at ease and safe, and where she gathers strength for her artistic production. And so “Homeland Pond” shows her as a crouching female figure amidst this wetland – embedded in and protected by the wilderness.
