When certain species are missing, the balance of the aquatic eco-system is upset — in many years of diving experience, Vierad observed how the richness of the seas has been dwindling. She also saw how whales have regenerated once again thanks to far-reaching protective measures after some species had almost become extinct. “It’s pure bliss,” she says, “to snorkel with these animals and to listen to their songs – a feeling that fills you with tremendous awe and happiness.”
